Different
Locks for Bike Racks The
more traditional school yard styles of bike racks are still used at
certain school locations. These locations include schools where bike
thefts are not a problem.
The newer bike racks are available with so many different features that
you are certain to find bike racks that will meet the needs of you or
your company. In addition, there are a myriad of designs available, some
of which are quite innovative. You should set forth your precise
requirements for a bike rack, then set out to find one that will be
suitable for your needs. You first need to determine how secure the bike
rack must be, as well as the durability to withstand the weather
elements. Manufacturers are continually developing new methods to
increase security for their bike racks. When a bike rider locks his bike
to a bike rack, he expects it to be there when he returns. A good secure
bike rack will ensure that the bike will be there (provided, of course,
that the rider locks his bike properly).
Bikes are the only form of transportation for many people, especially
college students, thus, it is very important that dependable bike racks
be located in such places as stores, college campuses, office buildings,
restaurants, movie theatres, etc.
Bike racks in Europe are plentiful due to the amount of people who use
bikes as their main form of transportation. However, it is interesting
to note that many of these bike racks are only suitable for bikers to
lock one wheel to the rack. Many of the European bike racks are not
U-lock compatible. However, European manufacturers have devised many
innovative designs in the bike racks themselves. For example, there are
bike racks in which the bikes must be parked at an angle so that the
handlebars are staggered.
Some of the European bike rack designs are quite simple and elegant, yet
they do not enable the bike to be locked securely. There are designs
which are very sleek and made from steel rack. These particular designs
would be quite difficult to lock the bike's wheel and frame with a
U-lock. Some of the bike racks are quite orderly and others provide a
hook on which to lock the bike, but once again, it is difficult to
utilize the U-lock. There are even some cement bike racks but most of
these racks cannot even accommodate a bike lock.
Manufacturers of bike racks in the United States are continually
researching new and better ways to create bike racks so that the bikes
can be securely locked. This will put the mind of the rider at ease,
knowing that his bike will be there when he needs it.
